proof of habbit

Habit apps fail because breaking a streak costs nothing — the worst thing that happens is a notification you swipe away. Commitment devices with real stakes are one of the best-documented behavior-change mechanisms in the literature, but the offline versions all need a trusted referee holding the money, and the trusted referee is exactly the part that breaks. Your friend lets you off the hook. The app operator can refund you if you email support. Putting it onchain removes the referee. ProofOfHabit turns "I'll start tomorrow" into "I have 0.5 MON on the line and 4 hours left to check in today," and there is no one to beg for an exception. Pro-rata settlement is what makes it livable rather than punishing: missing day 3 of 10 costs you 10% of the stake, not the whole thing, so one bad day doesn't make you abandon the habit entirely — which is the failure mode all-or-nothing staking creates.
