Campus Infrared is a department-first social platform that connects students with peers in the same major across different institutions. Built with a clean UI and Inter typography, it features a trending “Waves” feed for short educational videos, a freelance marketplace for assignments and projects, coin-based earnings, leaderboards, and live audio Sessions for real-time study groups. It solves the isolation and fragmentation students face — noisy global feeds and lack of relevant academic peers — by creating focused, high-signal communities where knowledge sharing and collaboration actually thrive, while letting students monetize their expertise. What we learned building it: The power of tight scoping (department silos were the killer feature), how much premium UI/UX details matter for user delight, and the magic that happens when real-time features (Supabase Realtime + Sessions) meet beautiful, intuitive design. We also discovered that students are incredibly willing to create and share once the tools feel natural and rewarding.
